(AEL) is a regional provider of esoteric and clinical laboratory services, designed to provide the unique turnaround time and quality demands for testing services of hospitals and physician practices. The company offers an extended test menu of both routine and esoteric testing. AEL seeks to use its advanced information technology solutions to accelerate and automate electronic assay ordering and result reporting for its customers.
AEL testing locations include the core laboratory in Memphis Tennessee, Physicians Medical Laboratory in Morristown, Tennessee and Woodbury Clinical Lab in Lebanon, Tennessee. AEL is a division of Sonic Healthcare USA and provides regional laboratory services along with patient service centers located throughout Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri and Kentucky. History
Prior to the acquisition by Sonic HealthCare in 2007, AEL was owned by American Esoteric Laboratories, Inc. AEL, formerly Memphis Pathology Laboratory, was formed as a joint venture owned by MDS Inc., Baptist Memorial Healthcare Corp., and Methodist Healthcare. The original partnership was formed in 1998 to establish MPL as an independent laboratory serving the Mid-South, joining MPL's testing expertise and outstanding service with MDS's leadership in marketing, automation, information technology and communication. Methodist Healthcare joined the partnership in 2003 when its subsidiary, Med Lab, brought its clinical skill, expert staff and customer base into the MPL operation. The expanded partnership brought fast, accurate results to physicians, hospitals, care facilities and businesses throughout the Mid-South. AEL owns and operates Physician's Medical Laboratory in Morristown, TN., and Woodbury Clinical Laboratory in Lebanon, TN.
